How to Design a Reward System That Increases LTV and Retention

Why Reward Design Matters

A poorly designed reward system either gives away too much (hurting IAP revenue) or too little (users ignore the offerwall). The right design increases both LTV and retention by giving users meaningful incentives to engage with rewarded monetization.

Virtual Currency Design

Create two currency types: Premium (IAP-only, hard to earn) and Earned (from offerwalls/ads, easier to earn). Set the exchange rate so that: 1 IAP dollar = 100 premium coins = 500 earned coins earned through offerwalls. This creates value differentiation — users can pay OR earn, but earning takes effort.

Tiered Rewards

Offer different reward amounts per user segment: Non-paying users = base rate (100 coins/offer), light spenders = reduced rate (75 coins/offer), heavy spenders = suppressed (don’t show offerwall). This prevents IAP cannibalization.

Daily Bonuses

Daily login rewards that escalate: Day 1: 5 coins, Day 3: 20 coins, Day 7: 100 coins. This creates habit loops. Combine with offerwall: ‘Complete 3 offers this week for a 50% bonus reward!’

Offerwall Reward Design

Set reward amounts based on offer value: High-payout offers = more coins, Low-payout offers = fewer coins. Show the reward amount BEFORE the user clicks — transparency drives trust. Use Perkox’s offerwall for dynamic reward display.

Measuring Success

Track: Offerwall engagement rate (target: 10-20% of non-payers), Reward completion rate (target: 60%+), LTV increase after adding offerwall (target: +20-50%), Retention at D30 (target: no decrease vs control).
